Lapsed Customer

There is one group of customer a lot of companies have not fully utilized them yet.

In my point of view, they are extremely valuable and I call them ‘lapsed customers’ – Those who used to buy from us but stopped lately.

Let’s see my further recommendations about this group of customer.

1) Half of those customers have been lapsed just because no one follows them up. As simple as that.

2) If I get asked how long after they have been lapsed we should start following up. The answer is that it depends on the industry.

For instance, mine is office furniture which hardly has repeated order so following up after a year is still fine. While consumable products require a follow up month after month.

3) Cost of following up those customers is low. We already know them and they already know us.

4) The question is whether you have a proper database management for this group of customer. How easy could you extract them from the system?

5) The best way is to approach them regularly although they do not have an order for you every month. This is preventive, rather than just following up after they’ve been lapsed.

Let me emphasize again that this group of customer is like a company’s treasure.

If you’ve already managed this group of customer properly, well done. If not, I recommend that you start doing something about it immediately.
